Newsletter Vol. 1, Issue 12

The summer season is winding down!  I hear that there are places in this blessed country where folks are, this very minute, ushering in fall weather with sweaters...and coats!  What must that be like?  

Regardless, our Saturday morning was a beautiful, cool one.  We enjoyed the gorgeous weather, and the colorful display that only an Arizona September can produce.

Meet me at the Market
One of the most wonderful things about our Farmers' Market is the people.  I love to watch folks walk into the park, and greet each other by name.  Young and old, we're all friends here, and I love it.  I moved to Globe from Las Vegas, and found what life had previously lacked.  Community.  Neighbors.  We live in the same place, and that makes us friends.  It's the way it should be.

Join us for our Last Farmers' Market!
This Saturday will be our final market of the season.  We have all enjoyed a successful summer, and would love for everyone to join us for one last amazing market day.  To celebrate, we'll have a free raffle drawing for an amazing basket of prizes donated by our vendors!  Just show up before 9am, put your name in, and you could win some fresh produce, baked goods, and more!  I hope you can make it!

Newsletter Vol. 1, Issue 11

I'm back!  Family events have taken me out of town for the past couple of weeks, but I'm hoping to settle back into a calmer routine.  (If that's possible with three kids under the age of six!)

Saturday was a busy day in our community!  We had the Miami Festival and the Hospital's Health/Craft Fair to keep some of our customers and vendors preoccupied.  So it was a rather quiet day at the Market.  I, myself, recruited my wonderful brother Adam to fill my shoes...or should I say, apron?

He's such a good sport!  My cupcakes and jams were in good hands.

Fall is Here?
Wasn't Saturday beautiful?  I know fall doesn't officially start until this Friday, and us Arizonans don't usually get to enjoy fall weather until late October.  But Saturday morning felt cool and fall-ish.  And if the cool breeze and slanted sunshine didn't get you in the mood for spiced cider and pumpkin bread, here are some highlights from our Market to help you out!

Special Feature
This week we also had a special booth about canning and food preservation by the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension.

 

Do you have a ton of veggies from you garden, and you don't know what to do with them?  Or do you want to have inexpensive cans of ready-to-eat pinto beans lining your shelves?  Check out The University of Arizona's Food Preservation site for more information.  Remember, the instructions there are for the Phoenix valley.  So if you're planning on doing some pressure canning (pressure canning is necessary when preserving vegetables, beans, or meat) here in Globe/Miami, remember to increase the pressure accordingly because of our higher elevation.  You can find more information at the National Center for Home Food Preservation.
