Saturday's Success!

This week's final Farmers' Market was a huge success!  A constant stream of customers kept our vendors busy...and happy.  This week's sales numbers were the biggest ever, bringing our season total to over $27,000 in revenue!

And it's no wonder, with the amazing selection our market had to offer.  Saturday our customers had one last opportunity to enjoy the tantalizing display of wares.

One last chance to grab something spicy.

To savor something sweet.

To enjoy something fresh and crisp.

To enjoy the bounty of fall.

To take away something one-of-a-kind.

Or even snatch that last bag of worms.

Prize Drawing!
The market customers were excited to learn that they could enter this week's raffle drawing for free!  People crowded around the manager's table to put their names in before the cut-off time.  At 9:00, Paul put all the names in his hat, and Laura picked one (as you can see from the photo, she took great pains not to cheat!).  Nancy McKay won the prize bag full of goodies donated by all of the vendors.  Congratulations, Nancy!  She and her husband want to give a BIG "thank you" to all the market vendors for their generosity.

Many Thanks
And so we say goodbye to our wonderful friends at the market.  Thank you Paul, for being a great manager.

Thank you, Laura, for getting the market up and rolling.

Thank you Market Board officers and members for all your work.

Thank you, vendors, for the hours and hours of time and labor you put in.  And thank you, customers, for making the market a success.

Yes this is goodbye.  But it's just goodbye for a season, after all.  We'll all be back before you know it.

Newsletter Vol. 1, Issue 12

The summer season is winding down!  I hear that there are places in this blessed country where folks are, this very minute, ushering in fall weather with sweaters...and coats!  What must that be like?

Regardless, our Saturday morning was a beautiful, cool one.  We enjoyed the gorgeous weather, and the colorful display that only an Arizona September can produce.

The green.

The red, orange, and yellow.

The delicious hues of frosted cupcakes and freshly-baked breads.

Even the fresh farm eggs were colorful!

Meet me at the Market
One of the most wonderful things about our Farmers' Market is the people.  I love to watch folks walk into the park, and greet each other by name.  Young and old, we're all friends here, and I love it.  I moved to Globe from Las Vegas, and found what life had previously lacked.  Community.  Neighbors.  We live in the same place, and that makes us friends.  It's the way it should be.

Join us for our Last Farmers' Market!
This Saturday will be our final market of the season.  We have all enjoyed a successful summer, and would love for everyone to join us for one last amazing market day.  To celebrate, we'll have a free raffle drawing for an amazing basket of prizes donated by our vendors!  Just show up before 9am, put your name in, and you could win some fresh produce, baked goods, and more!  I hope you can make it!

Newsletter Vol. 1, Issue 11

I'm back!  Family events have taken me out of town for the past couple of weeks, but I'm hoping to settle back into a calmer routine.  (If that's possible with three kids under the age of six!)

Saturday was a busy day in our community!  We had the Miami Festival and the Hospital's Health/Craft Fair to keep some of our customers and vendors preoccupied.  So it was a rather quiet day at the Market.  I, myself, recruited my wonderful brother Adam to fill my shoes...or should I say, apron?
He's such a good sport!  My cupcakes and jams were in good hands.

Fall is Here?
Wasn't Saturday beautiful?  I know fall doesn't officially start until this Friday, and us Arizonans don't usually get to enjoy fall weather until late October.  But Saturday morning felt cool and fall-ish.  And if the cool breeze and slanted sunshine didn't get you in the mood for spiced cider and pumpkin bread, here are some highlights from our Market to help you out!

But summer hasn't left us yet.  The bounty continues:

And the sweets!  Yes please.

Treasures Abound
And you never know what surprising treasures you'll find at our Farmers' Market.

Special Feature
This week we also had a special booth about canning and food preservation by the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension.

Do you have a ton of veggies from you garden, and you don't know what to do with them?  Or do you want to have inexpensive cans of ready-to-eat pinto beans lining your shelves?  Check out The University of Arizona's Food Preservation site for more information.  Remember, the instructions there are for the Phoenix valley.  So if you're planning on doing some pressure canning (pressure canning is necessary when preserving vegetables, beans, or meat) here in Globe/Miami, remember to increase the pressure accordingly because of our higher elevation.  You can find more information at the National Center for Home Food Preservation.

A special thank you to my sister-in-law Heather for this week's photos.  And I'll see you this Saturday for another beautiful day at the Farmers' Market!

Newsletter Vol. 1, Issue 10

Yesterday was a hot one!  After record-breaking high temperatures in Arizona this week, I wasn't sure how many people we would see braving the sunny and *ahem* unseasonably warm day to visit the farmers' market.  But I was so pleased to see crowds of loyal customers who were not to be daunted by an overzealous sun.

And I know they were glad they came.  Just look at what the market had to offer yesterday!

This is the place to be for fresh, local produce.  You may have heard that we all need to be eating a "rainbow" of fruits and vegetables to stay healthy.  And it doesn't get much more colorful than this!

Special Feature
We were privileged to have Catherine Crowley, "The Herb Lady," as our special guest yesterday.  She is a wealth of information for those of us trying to garden in the desert Southwest.  She had great tips and an informational handout, which I posted here last week.  If you don't know what you should be planting in your garden right now, check it out!

It may have been hot...
But when it's hot, the limeade tastes soooo delicious.

The jewelry sparkles that much brighter.

And the fresh baked goods have a tantalizing aroma.

A Giving Spirit
Yesterday Holly set out some beautiful vegetables to raise some money for a great cause.  Thank you Holly (and the donating garden!) for giving to our community!

Don't miss it!
Next week may be one of your last chances to get your hands on some juicy peaches from Reevis Mountain.  And if you don't know Peter and Patricia Bigfoot yet, you need to meet them!  I visited their website today, and was impressed to learn that they not only grow delicious produce, but they are experts when it comes to self-reliance skills such as herbal medicines and wilderness survival.  And they offer classes so you can learn it too!
